Funeral Consumers Alliance of Monterey Bay
FCA of Monterey Bay
FCA of Monterey Bay was originally founded in 1963 as The California Federation of Memorial and Funeral Societies. In 1974, the name was changed to Funeral and Memorial Society of Monterey Bay. (No notes as to why.) In 2000, it was changed again to Funeral Consumers Alliance of Monterey Bay.
From the Former president of FCAMB in 2024:
The Board has maintained at least 4 members throughout the years until this past year. As with many volunteer run organizations, people just don’t seem to want to volunteer. We have never had an office but worked out of our homes. During the epidemic we became very efficient on Zoom.
A newsletter, paper and then e-mail was published until about 2015. Printed copies were available when we spoke to a group at churches or service clubs.
Over the past decade, membership dwindled from over 700 members to less than 200. Outreach lacked the energy and time commitments to effectively reach potential new members.
I served on the Board for 19 years! I obviously enjoyed it and joined the FCA of California Board for about 5 years. We are all still supporters of end of life issues and planning.
Good luck to LEO!
