Messaging After You Are Gone

What is this?

The idea is to send a letter or a message to someone who will get it at some time in the future.

Most of your options are online, most of these are businesses.

There are 2 main dangers with this method:

  1. Most business will fail within a decade, so you need to factor in that possibility.
  2. The letter recipient may change contact information and the business will make no or minimal effort to find them.

To find which companies are currently operating, you can search along the lines of “how to send letters in the future.”

The best solution is to supply physical letters to someone you trust that will delegate to someone they trust, if needed.

One of the beauties of aging is that we gain perspective.  We often grow to deeper appreciate and become more curious about our elders.  Sadly, our desire to ask certain questions can come after they are gone.  Letters not only can offer the opportunity to convey our thoughts, but they can be kept and re-read even in to future generations.

Examples of future-given messages:

  1. Advice on becoming a parent.
  2. Reveal family secrets.
  3. Reveal a personal secret.
  4. Share stories and lessons learned.
  5. Offer congratulations on milestones, such as graduations,  weddings, and turning 50.
  6. Just send a smile, maybe some humor.
